What does Emmanuel Macron's discourse on French failure in Mali conceal, and where do the rebellion and the crisis in the Sahel come from?

Dominique Pagani comments on the interview given by Emmanuel Macron at the Africa Forward summit, following the attacks of April 25 against Mali. He first recalls that Sahelian jihadism stems from the destruction of Libya and that Islamic fundamentalism has been financed by the West. He then gives the crisis its "historical depth": since the OAS, the Tuareg card has been played to obtain a secession of northern Mali, on the model of the Katanga secession against Lumumba. He then poses the "bottom line": in countries this poor, the rebels' money necessarily comes from outside. According to him, imperialism wants to prevent a "critical mass" of a unified Africa. He concludes by denouncing the hypocrisy of the discourse on development and partnership, and opposes to French imperialism a progressive francophonie, heir to the French Revolution.
