What is rightly called fascism, and how can we recognize its return today?

Dominique Pagani starts from an observation: the left is shrinking to a shadow of itself and the far right is advancing, hence a danger of fascization. He asks, in the manner of Socrates, what should be called fascism. He first sets aside usages that trivialize the notion and "confusionism," beginning with the concept of totalitarianism, which puts communism and nazism on the same plane. He then draws out the determinations of true fascism: hostility to the French Revolution, which he reads in Achim von Arnim, hatred of the state, and anticommunism, in a context of economic crisis and decline of Atlanticist imperialism. He finally addresses the notion of revolution: he distinguishes national revolution, sovereignism, and identity from internationalism, then revolution from revolt and reform, and concludes that without revolutionary theory there is no revolutionary practice.
