What does the critique of the distinction according to Bourdieu by Henri Lefebvre, and more broadly the work of Clouscard, teach us about how to think differences, relativism and determinism?

Dominique Pagani starts from an excerpt from the Critique of Everyday Life by Henri Lefebvre, Clouscard's teacher, who criticizes Bourdieu's La Distinction for flattening the social and abolishing the value of works. Using the example of Schumann and musical consumption, he contrasts the distribution of distinctions in space, like animal species, with the unfolding of differences as moments in historical time. From this he draws a critique of structuralist formalism, of positivism and of essentialism, and defends the possible, with Lenin, Marx and Hegel's Wirklichkeit. The audience's questions then lead him to the sublation of relativism through the temporal dimension, then to a critique of ontology and of the dialectic of nature, drawing on Rousseau and the three viewpoints — naturalist, supernaturalist and anthropological. He ends with the topicality of Clouscard: the critique of the liberal-libertarian, of the West as an occulting concept, and of the neo-fascism arising from a false left.
