Why is hesitation, as opposed to decision, at the very origin of philosophy, and how does it touch on the problem of language?

Dominique Pagani announces the theme of the 2022-2023 cycle: hesitation out of scruple and humility, as opposed to Alexander's decision, who cuts the Gordian knot. He shows that this hesitation is immanent to philosophy. Philosophy is born of crisis, and the embarrassment produced by Socrates' questions forces us to look closely at the ambiguity of ordinary language. Perceval, mute before the Grail, and the figure of the ogre give hesitation a literary form. He then reads the passage on the piece of wax from Descartes' second Meditation: words stop the philosopher, and the identity of the wax is not seen but judged. He connects this passage to Clouscard's problem, the passage from ordinary language to the concept, then to the principle of identity and the subject's "I am I." He ends by announcing a reading of the three drops of blood on the snow in the Story of the Grail.
