What is libertarian liberalism according to Michel Clouscard, and why does May 68 mark its birth?

In this interview, Dominique Pagani presents the work of his friend Michel Clouscard. He situates it in the continuity of Hegel and Marx, against Althusser: it is a Marxism applied to consumption, mores and music, which seeks to reconcile praxis and psyche. He defines libertarian liberalism as a mutation of capitalism. To absorb overproduction, capitalism shifts from a morality of effort to a permissive consumption in the societal sphere, while remaining repressive in the social sphere. From this he draws a critique of formal freedom and of the confusion between the State and the state apparatus, then draws on Rousseau to recall what the individual owes to the collective. He finally reads May 68 as a societal counter-revolution opposed to the working-class May 68, and concludes on desire, constraint, and the relevance of Clouscard today.
