What is lying, and how is lying to oneself related to ideology, repression, and negativity?

Dominique Pagani starts from lying in politics: a statement by senior officials of the Ministry of Education denounces a "double discourse," and he links the double to the devil, whom the Gospel of John defines as "father of lies." He then distinguishes the false as error, the false as illusion, and lying, and draws an analogy between ideology in Marx, repression in Freud, and negativity in Hegel. Starting from the Hegelian definition of money as "the possibility of all things needed," he shows that wealth gives time to leave undetermined what one desires, which allows lying to oneself. The reading of chapter 4 of Nerval's Aurélia illustrates a privation of self-knowledge that is not a deliberate lie: the dream blurs at the moment when the secret of the dead mother is about to be revealed. He arrives, with Kant, the Philosophy of Right and the preface to the Phenomenology of Spirit, at the power of the negative and the self as mediation, then answers a question from the audience on Hegel and Africa.
