Is money only the power that perverts all values, or a medium whose problem lies in its distribution?

Dominique Pagani starts from a text by the young Marx in the 1844 Manuscripts quoting Shakespeare's Timon of Athens: money inverts all qualities and presents itself as "the bond of all bonds." He then refuses to demonize money. He evokes the retired miner who buys his television, then African poverty, where the lack of money makes children indistinguishable. He brings money close to language, two forms of exchange that link human beings, and shows with Mallarmé and primitive accumulation how words are perverted. With Nerval, he shows that money penetrates values believed to be non-economic, love or freedom: Rousseau, by refusing the hundred louis from Madame de Pompadour, ruins the monarchical edifice, and flees a society ruled by servitude and domination. He concludes that money is only a medium and that the problem lies in its distribution, that is, in social justice.
