What does the final formula of Parsifal, "Redemption to the redeemer," mean: does redemption close the cycle or set it going again?

Dominique Pagani takes up in detail the tale of the quest for the Grail, from Chrétien de Troyes to Wagner, practicing a symptomatic reading and answering Nietzsche, who sees in Parsifal only "bondieuseries." He starts from the work's last words, "Erlösung dem Erlöser," and illuminates them through the engraving of Amfortas's suffering described in Julien Gracq's Au château d'Argol: the blood of the Grail is there drawn from the wound itself, salvation is given and not earned, and the motto, inscribed in a ring, never closes the cycle. Wagner's letters to Judith Gautier then show that the work is not a renunciation of the flesh. From this he draws out the dialectic proper to Christianity, a religion of incarnate transcendence, where one must descend in order to ascend. He illustrates this finally through the dialectic of white, red and pink, from the bloodied swan to Fouquet's Virgin and the dreams of Nerval's Aurélia, before the screening of Parsifal's interrogation, interrupted by a signal breakdown.
