What does the notion of edge, border and march teach us about the war that breaks out in Ukraine?

Dominique Pagani starts from the theme he had planned, the edge, drawing on a line from Racine spoken by Aricie in Phèdre: the edge attracts and frightens, and it marks a passage from being to becoming. Current events then oblige him to speak of the war: he recalls that the word Ukraine means border, or march. He gives historical and geographical reminders, from the grand duchy of Kiev and the Varangians to Ukrainian nazism and the role of NATO. With Nerval, he argues that a border is not a line but a surface, and that Ukraine is a relation rather than a substance. Questions from the audience concern Putin's speech, neo-nazism in Eastern Europe, Israel, Trotskyists and Dugin. He concludes that dialectic is the science of the crossing of edges and that the edge can also be a refuge.
