What is common between the will to stop time in Baudelaire, Debussy and Lévi-Strauss, and the repetition of crises of capital that the events of March 2020 reveal?

Dominique Pagani starts from Debussy's Préludes and two poems by Baudelaire, "La Beauté" and "Harmonie du soir." He draws out from them the same desire to immobilize time: the marmoreal ideal of the Parnassian reaction, then the verbal magic that fixes the setting sun in "Harmonie du soir." He connects this aesthetic retreat to the school of disenchantment that follows the failure of 1848, then to contemporary ideology through Lévi-Strauss, for whom music and myths share a negation of time. He then moves to the most burning current events: not the lockdown but the economic crisis that is beginning. He concludes that the invariant is the repetition of crises of capital, which only carnage has so far postponed: after the malady of the century, the century of malady.
