Why does Hegel make Antigone's tragedy the "supreme ethical opposition," to the point of granting it a value that escapes its own era?

Dominique Pagani starts from an observation: the figure of Antigone runs through the whole of Hegel's work, from the translation he made of it in secondary school to the Principles of the Philosophy of Right. He rereads the passages where Hegel makes it the opposition of the city and the family, and thus of public and private, of man and woman, of day and night. From this he draws the notion of overdetermination, which he illuminates with Rousseau's text on Corsican clanism, then with the passage of the Phenomenology on war, on death as "absolute master," and on the cult of the dead. He then opposes Hölderlin's Remarks on Antigone to the Heideggerian reading that separates Hölderlin from Hegel. He arrives at the contemporary relevance of the question: where does the border between public and private lie. Questions about the public lead him to the notion of edge, with Rimbaud, Nerval, and Hölderlin's hymn The Rhine.
