#7 Answers to questions (continued)

#7 Réponses aux questions (suite)

Open on YouTube

How should one answer public questions on Nazism and esotericism, contemporary music, ontology in Marx, orbital resonance and a variant of Capital, and how to announce next semester's program?

Dominique Pagani interrupts the serial on memory and anamnesis to answer questions from the audience. He first announces that he will treat both Wagner's Ring and the articulation of the natural sciences and the human sciences: the Ring is to serve as an example of a possible rigor in the human sciences, like the inversion "by minus one" of two texts by Nerval. He then answers political and cultural questions: the links between Tibet and the Third Reich, Buchenwald at the gates of Weimar, then techno music, which he describes as a "sonic ghetto" without condemning the pleasure taken in it. He devotes the longest development to ontology: for Marx as for Hegel and Nietzsche, man is neither a being nor a having but a doing, constituted by relation and by history, which leaves room at most for a "second ontology." He ends on orbital resonance and the music of the spheres, on a passage from Capital absent from the English and German editions, and on Marx's opposition to Malthus and to the far right.
