Why does aesthetics remain tied to a political stake in Hegel, and why does the tragedy of Antigone still hold for the modern world?

Dominique Pagani begins with Beethoven's last quartet: Beethoven, Hegel and Hölderlin were born in 1770 and were twenty at the storming of the Bastille, in the "great intermission" between the Ancien Régime and the regime issuing from Waterloo. He shows that sonata form, which opposes themes and manages their tension, is a dialectical form, an expression of modernity. He then presents the plan of his book: art as a divine service that brings man closer to his truth, then the supreme ethical opposition as the middle term, and finally the course of the arts in Hegel, from architecture to poetry, for which he proposes a parallel with the generation of Goethe, Schiller and Hölderlin. He then addresses the exception that makes Antigone a work valid for all time: the conflict of family and city becomes, with the machine, the conflict of the state and civil society, that "wild beast" which the state must tame. The questions from the audience concern poetry as spoken music, law, wrong notes, and spatiality in music.
