Why must we reread today Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit as a philosophy of the true, opposed to the philosophy of sense?

The session celebrates the paperback reissue of the Phenomenology of Spirit in Bernard Bourgeois's translation. He opens the session: he argues that today's world remains the one Hegel described, that of the rational national state which gathers together the objective conditions of freedom. He then opposes the Hegelian philosophy of the concept and of the true to the philosophy of sense and lived experience, running from Schleiermacher to Gadamer and Ricœur. Dominique Pagani then presents the Phenomenology as a mediating and pedagogical work, in the line of the Bildungsroman and the Encyclopédie, and proposes speaking of a philosophy of the sign. The discussion then turns to being, nature, the abstract and the concrete, the concrete universal and the individual, freedom and equality. The session closes on the end of art, the fragility of the end of history, and the absolutizing of sense at the expense of the true.
