What does the concept of neo-kantianism mean in Michel Clouscard's L'Être et le Code, and why does this book, which restores the precapitalist history of France, remain relevant today?

The session presents Michel Clouscard's L'Être et le Code. A speaker opens the session: he situates the book within the historico-genetic marxism of its time (Sartre, Lefebvre, Goldmann), then shows that its concept of neo-kantianism still sheds light on the post-structuralism of Derrida and Badiou, which refuses totalization. Dominique Pagani then shows that Clouscard restores a history that the human sciences have repressed. He traces the production process of the precapitalist ensemble: slavery as a productive force, the Paulette edict, the passage from the Song of Roland to courtly love and from Corneille to Racine, where the superstructure becomes causal. Questions from the audience lead him to formulate the thesis that "the code precedes being," to define neo-kantianism as a rupture between the logical and the ontological, of which Kant is the upper limit, and to relate the psyche to praxis. He concludes that Clouscard is finally finding his readership, because that readership demands the right to both praxis and psyche.
